"Rejuvenation and Balance: My Ayurveda Massage Journey - Exploring an Alternative Healing Treatment"

The Retreat, Costa Rica

I’m walking in the middle of the jungle, leading into a dim room, separate from all the other rooms at the wellness sanctuary. I had just finished my run, my heart is still racing… I walk in,  the subtle scent of eucalyptus and sandalwood slows down my breathing and I start to relax.

The light is coming from a small candle in an altar;  a shrine in the back of the room. The massage table, in the center, a solid hard wood slab- “comfort” is a word that is far from my thoughts at this time. A little skeptical and worrying about pain, I remain open to the experience.

This is no Burke Williams, there is no music playing on the background or soft sheets to lay on or be covered with; but I stay curious. Ayurveda emphasizes the connection between humans and nature. The elements are incorporated into the room, potted plants, fresh flowers, fire from the candle, water from the small fountain feature in the corner, for the trinkling sound; All of these help create a harmonious and grounding atmosphere, fostering a deeper connection to my healing process.

Unlike a typical relaxation massage, using warm herbal oils, Ayurveda has a rhythmic motion to the technique, with a combination of gentle and firm strokes.  The rhythmic movements help relieve muscle stiffness, knots, and areas of tension in my legs, shoulders and neck.

By the end of the session, I realize I’m completely wrong.  This is the most relaxing and comfortable massage I have ever experienced. My muscle tissues have been reawakened from being frozen and blocked for so long. The oils penetrate the deeper layers of my skin, promoting hydration and leaving my skin feeling supple and soft.

Overall, this new healing treatment that I have tried brought on a feeling of lightness and ease within me.  It truly felt as if I had release all other heavier energies in my body that I no longer need leaving me feeling relaxed, balanced and a deeper sense of well-being.
